favorite styles of dance!

hey everyone!

I just wanted to say thanks for answering my poll titled "What is your favorite style of dance?" The choices were Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hip, Musical Theatre, Modern, and Other. I know I should have put more choices, like Tap and Lyrical. Next time I put a poll, I will post more choices! Here are the results!

1. Musical Theatre (5 votes)
2. Ballet (4 votes)
3. Jazz (3 votes)
4. Hip Hop (3 votes)
5. Modern (2 votes)
6. Other (1 vote)
Musical Theatre wins!!! My regular dance classes are Ballet, Jazz, and Modern... but over the summer I took an intensive on Musical Theatre dance and it was so much fun! Anyways, the point of the poll was so that I can make a post on the winning dance style! So expect a post about Musical Theatre dance very soon! Please vote on the next poll!

    Broadway Costumes!

           Hey everyone!
Today i wanted to post a little something about costumes! I'm at my friend's house right now, so I can't get any of my costume pictures, but I found some online to use that we can talk about!

    "Shrek the Musical"

On the very left we have big old green Shrek. His lime-colored skin is just amazingly done! Now my question is... is it make-up? Or is it like a mask that covers his whole body? If anyone knows, that would be a great thing to tell me! Also about Shrek, his outfit! If you look back at the movie, you'll really realize that they did the costumes for this Broadway musical very corresponding to the ones in the movie. Except of course, these are more detailed- considering it's not a cartoon. His bark-seeming vest has the perfect texture and color to match the wheat sweater and the red plaid pants.
And now we have Donkey in the middle with his big bunny looking ears and his gray outfit. In this picture you can't see his costume too much, so try looking online if you're interested in seeing the rest! Last but not least we have Fiona! Her emerald dress has amazing texture on it which looks great with her bright red braid and tiara! Her makeup is done just right, with the blush and lipstick.

    "The Lion King"

Wow. Just look at him. His lion head dress, his tweed-textured clothing, his diamond shaped paint on his neck, and gold cuff bracelets are awesome! Also if you check out other pictures of the Lion King you will find some more great costumes! I would say more, but I think this picture says it all!

    "Thoroughly Modern Millie"

Millie! One of my favorite characters out of any show. I looked up some Millie pictures, but some I didn't think were very Milie-ish. Some were like red hair, hot pink dressed, and too much jewelry! But this- this is perfect. Starting with the hair... Short dark brown hair with bangs. Wouldn't you imagine her having that? I know I would. And since the show is set back in the 1920's, it was very stylish back then to have a bob haircut. Now on to the dress! It's amazing! Ruby red to match her lipstick with sparkles and a big pouf at the bottom! I love that! And the halter really fits her personality- in my opinion. You can't see her shoes too much- but what I guess is that they are pink and shiny high heels with a band to support her feet. The whole outfit ties together so well!

    "The Little Mermaid"

Ariel! This picture is just adorable. It really makes her character shine. The sparkly blue tail peeks out above her beautifully! Her flowing orange hair rests gently on her shoulders and splashes all around her. Her lipstick color is perfect with hints of red, orange, and pink! And I love her little "hair brush." This costume and set is just so amazing and it really sums up her character!

Well that about finishes up today's post. Please note that these photos are not mine. They were found on....

    stage fright?

    hey guys! (again today)

i was just going to share a few of my tips on getting over your fear of getting up on stage... or the quicker way to put it- stage fright. First of all, let me just say that stage fright is perfectly normal. But if you are going to start getting up on stage a lot or read a monologue in front of your class, sooner or later you're going to have to get over that fear. Here's some advice of how to start you off...

    1. DON'T CARE! You shouldn't be worrying about what other people think of you! My drama teacher today was talking about how of course you want your reputation to be good, but that does not mean being the most popular or the most pretty girl in school. It means just being nice to everyone. So if you're afraid that if you mess up you'll "hurt your reputation," then tell yourself- it doesn't matter. Because it doesn't.
    2. PRACTICE! For any musical or play or monologue or anything you have to do in front of an audience, 99% of the time you will be given time to practice. Even if it's just a few short minutes, make them count! If you have all your lines memorized (and have put feeling into them!!!!) then trust me- you will not be as nervous. So, basically, if you are given the time to practice- then practice... seriously.
    3. MEDITATION! Breathe slow, deep breaths. But not too deep that you will hyperventilate. Just steady, peaceful breathing can always calm down your nerves. Maybe you could also try praying, because that's always a very peaceful time for me!
    4. JUST ONE PERSON! Look out into your stadium of people, or your small class of peers... and pick one person. That one person that will not make you laugh or feel uncomfortable. That one person that makes you feel confident no matter what. That is the only person in the audience. Don't stare at them, but at least know they are they to support you.
    5. GETTING INTO THE BUSINESS! Or, if you are like me and don't get nervous at all... remember your first major role and you were really nervous? And just being on stage a lot and performing has made you sooo much less nervous, but you did once have stage fright? Well then, that's a good tip for all you that still have anxiety before getting up in front of a crowd. If you work at it and start to perform a lot, you will slowly become less and less nervous and pretty soon- it comes very natural to you.
There are so many other ways to help you overcome stage fright, and sometimes you will find that way yourself, and it might not work for other people- but it works for you, then go with it! i hope this helps!

    dog-sitting!

    hey guys!

today I am at my neighbor's house dog-sitting. I do this a lot, and it is a LOT of fun! She has two dogs named Shu Shu and Coco. They are adorable! Shu Shu has been around for a while, and he's a big furry ball of white fluff. Coco is fairly new to the family, and she is a lot smaller! She looks like a smaller version of Shu Shu... except a whole lot crazier!
i normally come here for 3 or 4 hours and do homework, watch tv, read my book, etc. while Coco snuggles up next to me (Shu Shu likes to sit in her mommy's room, but sometimes she will come downstairs). But I also play with them- they have lots of toys!- take them out to do their business and just run around with them! it is a lot of fun- and i get paid to do that!
anyways, the meaning of this post is, if you are kind of too young to babysit (but you are responsible and love animals) then maybe you should try out dog-sitting! i am slowly starting babysitting, but dog-sitting is a lot of fun and it's a great way to spend my day!

this is Coco with her little hair bows!

    third post's the charm!

Okay. Today I was thinking I could share a few tips on making your character come alive.

    1. FACIAL EXPRESSIONS! Always use facial expressions that light up your character. Whether your the perky princess or a lonely peasant, it's always best to use facial expressions that make your character your character!
    2. VERBAL EXPRESSIONS! If you are portraying someone from the country down South, maybe try a few things... like an accent! Take risks!
    3. DETAILS! Even simple things like the way your character walks across the stage counts. If you are the evil cat walk sneakily around like you are about pounce on your prey or something.
I hope this helps! There's so many other things you'll discover! Toodles for now!
